Offered is a charming and highly collectible Esso Oil Drop Girl die-cut porcelain advertising sign, featuring the iconic anthropomorphic oil drop character used in Esso marketing campaigns during the mid-20th century.
Esso (Standard Oil) introduced the friendly oil drop mascots commonly referred to as the Esso Oil Drop Boy and Girl in the 1950s and early 1960s as part of a nationwide advertising effort promoting the brands gasoline and lubrication products.
These colorful and whimsical characters were widely used in service station displays, pump islands, and point-of-sale advertising, helping create one of the most recognizable petroleum marketing images of the era.
Today, original die-cut porcelain examples are sought after by petroliana and automobilia collectors for their nostalgic appeal and strong visual presentation.
This example is single-sided porcelain enamel on steel, die-cut in the form of the smiling oil drop character standing on an Esso logo base.
The sign measures approximately 34 inches tall by 15 inches wide and displays well with bright colors and gloss.
Some mounting and edge wear is present consistent with age and use, adding to its authentic service station character.
A desirable and display-friendly Esso advertising piece suitable for garage, showroom, or petroleum memorabilia collections.
